THE PATHWAY TO PEAK PERFORMANCE IN 2011 series 1
Welcome to a brand new year .No matter what has transpired in the previous year , you are still here , moving and breathing.Stop mourning over unmet goals and over unreached targets-the money you didn’t manage to save, the business you didn’t start, the course you failed. The new year is a gift, unveiling to you fresh opportunities, new possibilities, untapped potentials to birth a new you. You cannot discover new oceans until you are willing to lose sight of the shore. I know you are tired of the statusquo and desire to create a masterpiece from your life in 2011.This won’t emerge from the blues, its going to be a function of committing yourself to living a life of peak performance. Let’s consider the first letter in the word P.E.A.K which will serve as a roadmap to on our journey to release our imprisoned splendor.
1. Project into the future
Projecting into the future is about creating a vision for your life. Vision means the ability to capture the picture of the future in the present. It is the ability to invent what has not existed before. Vision gives us the opportunity to live out our imagination instead of our memory. A man by the name Robert Woodruff was the president of Coca cola during world war 2.He made a powerful pronouncement ,”I see a vision that where ever American soldiers are five years from now, they will be able to buy a bottle of Coca-Cola for five cents, “They made it. Then he expanded the vision and said: ‘I see people all over the world being able to drink Cocacola’.That was how Coca cola expanded because one man dared to project into the future, without being discouraged by the perils of the present.
2. Paradigm Shift
A paradigm shift is a radical change in thinking from an accepted point of view to a new one.Suceeding in 2011 begins with you changing your mindset from limiting beliefs to empowering beliefs. If you allow your negative mindset to blind you from the possibilities of succeeding In Nigeria, it’s up to you. Remember, it’s your mindset that determines your lifeset. Can you see a prince in the pauper, gold in the ghetto, diamond in the desert, a king in a kid? In the words of Mike Todd:”I’ve never been poor, only broke. Being poor is a frame of mind, being broke is temporary
.
3. Problem solving
Everything God created is a solution to a problem. Doctors solve health related problems ,lawyers solve legal problems, educationists solve the problems of ignorance. Your value only increases in proportion to the quality of problems you solve, and how competent you are at solving them. The richest guys in the Forbes list are the individuals who have gained mastery in problem solving. According to Denis Waitley:’Don’t dwell on what went wrong, instead focus on what to do next. Spend your energies on moving forward toward finding the answer’.
4. People
In the words of Stanley E.Allyn:’The most useful person in the world today is the man or woman who knows how to get along with people. People can trace their success or failures to the relationships in their lives. I was being interviewed for a TV talk show sometime last year, and in the process, the producer of the show needed another Human empowerment coach to present another segment on the show. Immediately, I recommended my professional colleague who accompanied me to the studio, which gave him the rare opportunity to produce the segment on national television. This happened because he connected with me. People can be the wind beneath our wings or the anchor on our boat. Would others say you lift them up or take them down?
5. Pursuit
Abraham Maslow once said:’ A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself.W hat one can be, one must be. ‘Nothing happens until somebody or something makes it happen. Your goals, aspirations, dreams, won’t come to fruition until you are willing to walk the talk and engage the force of pursuit in the actualization of your dreams. In this part of the world, its really difficult to pursue your passion because there are a lot of forces fighting you. P.H.C.N is fighting you by not supplying power supply, the economy is not friendly to your aspirations, and the absence of funds is giving your goals a hard punch. But you’ve got to fight back. Yes! You cannot afford to surrender your life to the adverse challenges of our national life. You need to take those steps that will eventually birth the new you that you deserve. Welcome to a new chapter in the story of your life.Go and rule your world!

BE THE STAR IN YOUR OWN MOVIE
BE THE STAR IN YOUR OWN MOVIE
‘You are your own star in your own movie. You write the script of your life. You are the actor in your own life, so start living it to the fullest and in the best way possible for the way you want your own movie to turn out!’
-NICOLE LANNING
Being the star of your own movie is about intentionally changing the story of your life.Since the drama of life is already a fashioned agenda,,it is critical to be the author of your life’s action movie. Therefore the question is not whether we will die but how we will live. Irrespective of whatever life has thrown at you, you can still stand tall and begin to live the life of your dreams. You can have a better story to tell.
WHAT ROLE ARE YOU GOING TO PLAY?
You play the starring role in your own movie. But you are more than actors playing somebody else’s script. In this case , you are the author of your own life’s story. You have to live up to your responsibility as the lead actor and start taking initiative towards turning your life into a masterpiece. Nobody is going to play the role for you. You can either be a ‘Wakapass’(A minor character) or a superstar in your own super story. Stop allowing others to play your super star role for you. You are the one who will dictate the pace of your life, in conjunction with the executive producer(God almighty) who controls the affairs and the king over our lives. Is your movie going to be a blockbuster or another bitter tale?
CHANGE THE STORY LINE
The greatest influence on our lives stems from defining moments from our past. However the story of your life may have been, its up to you to change the storyline. Your story may be tragic and nothing to write about like:’I am born into a poor family’,I am limited by the shortcomings of my parents’, I have no money to pursue my dreams’.Inspite of these bitter tales, you can decide to be either the protagonist or the antagonist of the story of your life. You have power over how the story ends.
FLASHBACK?
It’s a sudden clear memory of something that happened in your past that is so real that you feel you are living through the experience again. Never drag your past into your future. All of us have a story, many of the chapters have already been written by events of the past. But your past can either be a place of residence or a place of reference, depending on your perspective..The past can make you reshape your life’s clay or it can be the canvass on which you paint your future.
WHO IS GOING TO BE IN YOUR CAST?
In this movie, your casts are the individuals who will play the different part of your life’s movie. Its up to you to feature the best hands who will lead you to your desired end, than to feature amateurs who will mar the movie called your life. The company you keep determines how far you go in life. There are individuals who are assets to your life, listen to their counsel, on the flipside, some folks are liabilities providing wrong counsel, and they are toxic to your dreams…. You need to write them out of your movie. You should never allow a pauper play the role of a prince in your movie.
LOCATION!LOCATION!! LOCATION!!!
Your location is the environment that supports your dream and aspirations. Its the soil that makes your seed germinate, it’s the sky that makes the bird fly, it’s the water that makes the fish swim. Its not every location that is suitable for your life’s movie. In real estates location is everything. Abraham had to leave his father’s house before he could take giant strides in his life. Your location determines your visibility, your location determines your profitability, your location determines your opportunity. Make sure your location makes you seen heard, and noticed.
CAMERA!LIGHTS! ACTION!
A movie without actions cannot become a blockbuster.Imagine, being on a movie production set,the director refused to yell :’Action’!the actors refuse to get into character, tapes refuse to roll, lights refuse to be switched on,the movie will turn out a disaster. You are the only one who will appear in every scene of your life. Its up to you to start taking steps that will make your life a masterpiece.Stop procrastinating, start doing.!This reminds me of M.i’s lyrics in his sophomore album:
‘You are the one that will change the dramma you are going through
You are the change, you are the hope, you are the miracle
You are the strength you need in times unbearable
We can seize the moment
And only be the proponent’
Stop watching other people’s movie, be the star in your own movie!

TALENT
(Inspirational musings for the soul)
Dedicated to the young Nigerian who have dared to pursue their true talents inspite of the odds. You rock!
It’s the treasure in you crying for expression
It’s the light in you, begging for illumination
It’s the book in you that must be read
It’s the voce in you that must be heard
It can make the pauper become the hero
It can make the pauper become a very important fellow
You are the king in me that is meant for the throne
You are the dream in my heart pushing me to be a man of my own
You re the mustard seed in me that will grow into a tree
You are the angel that sets me free
You are the door that leads me to possibilities
You turn my inner yearnings into realities
I am the song you must sing
I am the jingle that makes the your bell ring
I am your blockbuster movie, your bestselling novel
I pack your life’s struggles like the shovel
I am the window of opportunities the road to greatness
I am your light that shines in darkness
I am the product of God’s brainstorm
I am the stage play you should perform
They ve given you different names, some call you potential
Your value is more than any credential
They call you simply divine
Your root stems from the vine
They say you are the music that puts food on the table
Your genotype’s configuration makes me capable
They call you natural endownments, his free gift
Your wing gives my life a lift and my mind a paradigm shift

………AND THE ANGELS CAME TO THE NEWSROOM
………AND THE ANGELS CAME TO THE NEWSROOM
The sound of the speakers buzzing with gospel tunes leaves you wondering if you were in the wrong place,if you had not seen the white banner cleverly hung on the wine coloured wall of the Vanguard Newspaper entrance with these words boldly written:’VANGUARD CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP HOSTS PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE.THEME:THE STORM IS OVER.A few days before the event, held on Tuesday 29th of November 2010,I was approached by one of my,’senior’ female friends to be available at the event to play the bassguitar.I was elated, as I figured out this will give me the rare opportunity to have a close encounter with the renowned General overseer of RCCG.A day before the event, Monday to be precise,I was in the valley of indecision, regarding the outfit I will put on, that will best suit the purpose of the event, and also make me stand out. Suddenly, my eureka moment came…..i decided to pick my treasured shining black suit, which I only wear when I have very important outings to attend. As the hours drew closer, and minutes became seconds,P.H.C.N refused to perform the miracle of restoring the power supply, so I found myself carefully using the stove iron to smoothen the rough edges of my treasured suit.
Fast forward to the day of the event….as we stepped into the venue of the event,I was marveled at how the media house’s compound had been tastefully and excellently decorated….imagine a compound housing newsrooms being transformed into a haven of divine visitation. Unexpectedly, the programme started quite late due to logistics issues like the testing of the musical equipments, late arrivals of the invited guests.e.t.c.After immersing myself in the ritual of sound check and tuning the bassguitar, I waited for the other instrumentalists present to have their fair turns of observing the soundcheck and making every necessary amendment in order to produce excellent sounds when the event eventually kicks off. My initial excitement melted, when I started feeling the bitter pangs of hunger, since I wasn’t able to have my my breakfast before I left home that morning.Hence,I and my fellow instrumentalists had to find a place where we bought soft drinks and biscuits, which helped simmer down the pangs of hunger.
THE ARRIVAL:
The guests came in from far and wide. There were editors, reporters, families, and friends of Vanguard media, columnists, all coming into the venue of the event like devoted members of a congregation.Expectedly, ministers and members of the RCCG came in en masse to add colur to the event. The event kicked off with serenading praise and worship songs led by the praise team, which literally changed the atmosphere,as our hearts were one with heaven, you could feel the presence of the angels riveting in the pure worship.
..AND THE WORD BECAME FLESH
Vanguard newspaper didn’t spare any thing in publicizing the event. As they splashed the adverts in their paper announcing the event. But inspite of the buzz worthy hype preceding the event, members of staff of Vanguard still had their doubts that the renowned pastor will honor their invitation as he is known to have a busy evangelistic itinerary. The most explosive part of the event was when the G.O arrived. He was warmly and delightfully received amidst the ongoing praise song, sung to welcome him.As I passionately strummed the string of the bass guitar, I saw the twinkle in the eyes of the people, as the cameras clinked , and the individuals who have not been privileged to have a close encounter with the man of God, jostled to get a glimpse of him.He was clad in a milk colored French suit with a bow tie to match. He immediately delved into the message after his salutation. A lady sitting close to me was prompt in saying’: Our G.O doesn’t waste time’ and in my mind I said to my self: ‘I hope so’
With the pressures of living in a cosmopolitan city like ours, I could see the people beaming with hope after the delivery of the message. It was as if a courier had dispatched envelopes containing millions of naira to everybody. As I unplugged my guitar, putting in back inside the bag, I concluded that with the excitement on the faces of the individuals who attended the programmme, definitely hopes has been dispatched into their lives, as we all left armed with the courage to confront our lives storms.

NIGERIA:LONG WALK TO TRANSFORMATION
NIGERIA: LONG WALK TO TRANSFORMATION
At the dawn of Nigeria’s golden jubilee independence day celebration, I woke with a rather patriotic zeal .I grabbed my phone and observered my daily ritual of facebooking. To my dismay, I read different status updates falling in between optimism and pessimism. Some young Nigerians chose to see Nigeria as a glass cup that is half full, while others viewed Nigeria as glass cup that is half empty. On the flip side, some other individuals are of the opinion that there is nothing to celebrate, rather we need to lament our failure as a nation after five decades of nationhood. Prior to October 1st 1960, a crop of people fought through lumps of sweat and blood to birth our nation’s independence. Some of these national heroes and ‘Sheroes’ sacrificed their lives on the altar of selflessness, believing nothing was too big to usher in our country’s liberation. They jubilated at the declaration of independence , beaming with high hopes, and dreaming of a green land full of possibilities and started a walk.Yes!a walk to transformation. They left the waiting room of colonialism, and embarked on a journey towards building a new nation.
Today, all you need to do, is to fast-forward to the present day Nigeria. A country devoid of navigational and inspiring leadership , where regular power supply is a big deal, unemployment rate growing in leaps and bounds, where national security is elusive , a nation where the citizens are their own local government. Beyond all these tragic flaws, I believe the next 50 years can be full of major milestones to record in our history books, and things to smile about. It can only happen, if we are willing to tread the path of least resistance , and rewrite our national script. How long will it take for Nigeria to be totally transformed?i guess it doesn’t take forever, if we leave this sidelines of apathy, and become active players in Nigeria’s evolving transformation. What will the coming generation say about you? if you refuse to contribute your own quota to the development of our nation.’But I cannot do anything, I am not even a politician’, to that I say you can effect your own change by being a good citizen of this country. In the words of Tolu Ogunlesi, a Journalist/literary critic:’This is a country whose biggest trade is not in oil, or in scam letters, but in hope, a land whose true currency is not the Naira, but optimism, one whose biggest industry is the one that recycles resilence.’Inspite of our perilious realities and challenges, we still choose to rise.
Its time to jump off the couch of ‘siddon look’ .We need to go beyond discussing national issues in beer parlours, updating our status on networking sites, to charting a new course .Its stale news, Yes! The government has failed us, but we cannot afford to fail ourselves, we must give ourselves a pass mark. Thank God a lot of individuals are looking beyond Aso rock for the change we desire , and have kicked off their own national transformation campaigns /projects, which is in harmony with their passions and inner yearnings. You deserve a new Nigeria, a new national psyche predicated on working towards the emergence of a great nation. Heed to the clarion call.Nigeria can be great again, it begins with you!

THE SECRET OF MOVING FROM UNKNOWN TO RENOWNED
THE SECRET OF MOVING FROM UNKNOWN TO RENOWNED
‘If you deliberately set out to be less than you are capable of, you will be unhappy for the rest of your life’-Abraham Maslow
You’ve heard their names:
-Omawunmi Megbele –Law student turned songstress turned celebrity
-Ayo Arowolo-Journalist turned personal finance expert turned celebrity
-Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie-Literature buff turned author turned celebrity
The list of ordinary folks who became extraordinary and renowned is endless. Here is an important point….You too can join the list of unknown individuals who have strutted the limelight and gained recognition as a result of unearthing their Godgiven talents and abilities.Stay with me, as we embark on a journey that has the capacity to change your life and fasttrack you into a life of success and significance.Being renowned is about putting yourself in the spotlight, walking to the centrestage and becoming you own megaphone. In the past, you could be obscure yet secured, in today's world , you cannot bank on that because, people will only buy into you when you’ve gained name recognition, which is a function of being an expert in your field.I have coached countless individuals who are amazingly talented and they often ask me:’Kenny, I am gifted but unknown, people don,t give me jobs, I don,t have clients and I am getting frustrated’.If you are in their shoes, you’ve just landed a road map that will instruct and inspire you on your success journey.
When I use the word RENOWNED think of somebody different from the megastars, tabloid seekers. Our renowned personality is someone trying to gain recognition for all the right reasons and is eager to help others live a better life and become a solution provider in a chosen field. Now, let’s get started
PILLAR 1
DECIDE TO BE RENOWNED
To become renowned, you,ve got to decide to be renowned.Trust me, it won't come on a platter of gold.It requires time and effort.Deciding to be renowned will require an atitude shift i.e :a new way of seeing and talking to yourself. You've got to see yourself as a megastar, a celebrity, an expert who has a unique offering for the universe. If you ask most renowned pop stars, authors, talkshow hosts, lawyers, e.t.c.they will tell you:’I have always known I will be renowned and be making a difference in the lives of people’
PILLAR 2
DISCOVER YOUR COMFORT ZONE
Everything God created has a comfort zone.
Birds fly in the sky
Cars function on land
Fishes swim on water
Your comfort zone is a combination of your gifts, talents, and strengths. What gives you pleasure, an activity you are comfortable doing.Find your comfort zone, refine it to marketable skills and deliver it to your world.
PILLAR 3
Birds fly in the sky
Cars function on land
Fishes swim on water
Your comfort zone is a combination of your gifts, talents, and strengths. What gives you pleasure, an activity you are comfortable doing.Find your comfort zone, refine it to marketable skills and deliver it to your world.
PILLAR 3
TURN YOUR TALENT INTO A SKILL
Talent is a natural ability, God gives talent.Skill is the refined talent. Its therefore your responsibility to convert your talent into a skill. In the words of Fela Durotoye:’Talent is innate and inborn , skill is diligent, disciplined and developed talent’
PILLAR 4
Follow.One. Course. Until.Successfull(F.O.C.U.S)
Watch small children playing and what do you see? They move quickly from one toy to another, from one activity to another. They spend tremendous energy but get little done. They lack focus. What do you want to be known for?Your answer to this question is an indication of what you should focus on.You can only be renowned for one thing.
PILLAR 5
GET THE WORD OUT
What ‘s the use of being a solution when people don,t know what you offer.A terrible thing happens without publicity….NOTHING.Don’t be the single grain of sand in the beach, be the beach umbrella, bright, high and extremely visible.Chudi Onyemeri a Business Freedom coach once made this statement:’Its not your talent that sells you, its marketing that sells your talent.’
PILLAR 6
GIVE IT FOR FREE(AT FIRST)
What can you do for free and still earn a fee?In the early days of your business pursuit, you should be willing to offer your services, product, expertise, for free. Most of the world renowned successful people have gone through a period when the value they offered were not immediately rewarded with money.
-Zig Ziglar ‘s first 3,000 motivational speeches were given for free
-Anthony Robbins in the first six months as a motivational speaker, gave his speeches for free and had an average of fIve speaking engagements everyday.
-I have written more than 200 articles and they were all written for free in my early days as a syndicated columnist.

CROWD MENTALITY
‘Imitation is suicide’ -RALPH WALDO EMERSON
I got the inspiration to write this piece while listening to M.I’s crowd mentality song. For me, the lyrics of this well crafted rap epitomize the danger of walking in somebody else’s path. The legendary Fela kuti calls this:’Follow, follow’. In today’s world, I see this mob mindset being displayed everywhere. From Music, to Fashion, from politics to the Sporting arena, you find individuals who have no business doing what they do,they will rather fit somewhere else.Don’t be afraid of walking your own path , don’t just follow the multitudes because they seem to be doing what is right. Find your own rhythm and pace in life’s journey.
Recently I was having a coaching session with my OAP (On air personality) friend, I counseled her to develop her unique signature style which will make her different from any other radio presenter people have ever listened to. In branding, differentiation is everything. You are either distinct or you go extinct. When you are different, you are remembered. Its been said that heroes walk alone. They stand out from the crowd and stay outside the security of the pack. They walk their own paths, sing their own song, write their own stories, and dance to their own drumbeats. In the words of John Maxwell he said:’ He who follows the crowd will never be followed by a crowd’.Your originality is your greatest asset.Radio broadcast in Nigeria is replete with different radio stations who have been able to carve a niche for themselves. For instance WAZOBIA FM is different from an INSPIRATION FM.These stations have carved out a niche for themselves which is the reason why people keep listening to them. Quit trying to be everything to everybody. You are not designed to live someone else’s life .Live your own life and be all you were meant to be.Learn to be comfortable in your own skin.
I.K Osakioduwa a renowned radio presenter puts it this way:’The worst thing in life today is trying to fit into someone else’s shoes.Someone else’s shoes are designed for him.His feet are different from yours.’The starting point of quitting the mob mentality lies in self discovery.Ask yourself:’Am I wired for what I am presently doing? According to Charles Swindoll:’God wanted you to be you, don,t dare change because you are outnumbered’.Take a critical look at topnotch salesmen, muisicians, outstanding sportsmen, musicians, and brilliant inventors. These people are doing what they can do best. That is why they are right there at the top of their game. Don’t try to make yourself into something you have no inborn talents for, if you do you will be running through life travelling third class when you could have gone first class. Companies understand this, that is why they have a unique selling proposition.Be you,be comfortable in your own skin. I am concluding this piece by quoting part of M.I crowd mentality rap:
’If you don,t have a mind of your own Don,t be disappointed, this is fine be a clone .Listen to me rhyme Am done trying to be mine all alone .There are people walking around like zombies And its so strange How people are afraid of change .Afraid of what will happen if we re arrange .So most black people are just doing What the crowd is doing ,doing what the system says we are allowed to .So break free from the crowd mentality And then we can start to build a new reality.

B.R.A.N.D YOU
BRAND YOU
Everyone has a chance to stand out. Everyone can be noticed. Everyone can project his/her Uniqueness and distinctiveness. No matter how talented you are, if you are not branded, you cannot rise to the top of your game. One look at the distinctive swoosh on your trainers tells everyone who got you branded. The truth is that you are a product competing for attention on the shelf of life. All renowned authorities in various fields of life have learnt to distinguish themselves through personal branding. Personal branding is about amplifying your unique characteristics and packaging them into a personal representation that is “Younique” and distinct.
Personal branding is a mental tattoo held indelibly about you in the minds of other people. Your personal brand reflects what you are committed to, what you stand for, and how you represent it to the outside world.
The core reason why individuals like Michael Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, Da grin, Fela Anikulapokuti are still being recognized even though they have left this terrestrial space is simply because they are brands, they gained name recognition by maximizing their God given abilities. So what does it takes to become a talent brand?.
B-Be the expert: Yes! Be the one who people run to, when they need to solve a problem that is in area of your core competence.
Sharpen your talents into world standards. The only way you can attract more clients is by upping you game and having an expert status in the mind of your prospects.Project your problem solving ability so as to attract the right prospect to your niche.
R=Relevance: How relevant are you in your chosen field? If your name comes to mind when people are looking for a particular service, then you are relevant. Being relevant simply means finding a solution a peculiar problem in your chosen field. It’s also about being creative, productive, and inventive.
A-Announce your presence: When was the last time your name appeared in the print media of the electronic media. It is your visibility that determines your credibility. To become a brand, you need to constantly broadcast your presence by being in the face of your prospects. Either through contributing articles to publications, starting a project, writing a book e.t.c
N-Newness: You have to constantly innovate. All strong brands are always expanding their brand visibility by doing something new or adding a unique feature to the service they render. You can also serve an unmet need in your niche and be the cynosure of all eyes in your craft.
D –Differentiation: Differentiation is the key to market domination. If you don’t separate yourself from the majority, then you cannot get the lion’s share in your industry. What’s your specialty? What quality sets you high and above the crowd? If you do not identify what make you different, then people will be indifferent to your services.Get branded! Be the light in your industry, its not just enough to recognize your place you need to also maximize your market space and be the dominant leader in your niche.Go and rule your world!
