12 PEOPLE TO WATCH OUT FOR IN 2012

JOSEPH BENJAMIN
Mr Benjamin sits on the top of the list of actors to watch our for. With several projects ready to launch in 2012, and Nollywood finally opening its arms wide, Joseph will be one of the major movie stars to court next year.

KUNLE AFOLAYAN
Kunle Afolyan‘s latest movie, Phone Swap is going to be another good flick from one of Nigeria’s best directors. And 2012 is the year fans will have his award-winning movie ‘figurine’ available for home entertainment.

KWEEN ONOKALA
After a long hiatus from the music industry, Kween who thrilled us with ‘Come wiv me‘ and ‘Jebele’ before running off to the UK to deliver her second baby, is set for a comeback. This time around she will be facing stiff competition from the likes of Omawumi, Tiwa Savage and Waje. 2012 will see her competing with all these big female acts. We will have to see how she carves her own lane.

LINDA IKEJI
Ms Ikeji has, surprisingly, become Nigeria’s most famous, most notorious and most powerful blogger. Her blog’s (www.lindaikeji.blogspot.com) Alexa ratings growing so rapidly it’s unbelievable; And her posts whether personal, controversial or just plain humor have become huge with readers home and abroad. Linda blogged her way to fame and considerable fortune in 2011. Will she finally turn her hobby into a structured business in 2012?

MO’ ABUDU
Nigeria’s leading talk-show host, Mo’Abudu has bigger things to achieve this year. After successfully producing numerous seasons of Moments with Mo’ and two seasons of The Debaters she has her sights set on establishing her own TV Channel, and eventually, a station from 2012.

MONICA
Newsflash! There’s a new Project Fame winner and all eyes are on the uber talented Monica who will enjoy the shine while she works on her debut album. She joins past winners Iyanya, Myke and Chidinma.

NGOZI OKONJO-IWEALA
The iron (wo)man in GEJ’s cabinet has become the ministers’ minister – pulling more influence locally and internationally than any of her colleagues; and obviously the one on whose shoulders the country’s economic hope rests. All eyes are on the former World Bank star; especially as most Nigerians have concluded that Mr President is clueless.
This graceful looking indigene of Akwa-Ibom is gradually making her way to being Nigeria’s top actress. She has acted in several quality Nigerian films and recently starred in Kunle Afolayan’s Phone Swap which will be released this year.

PRAIZ
Expect this smooth singer to advance his career further in the New Year. With new singles already heating up the radio, Praiz is one act to keep an eye on. His unique R&B style will make him in high demand within the next 12 months.

TIWA SAVAGE

Tiwa Savage has proven that she is not here to line up with other artistes hoping to get a break. In one year she has had two major singles. Her collaboration with Don Jazzy will, hopefully, increase her relevance, as she works to drop her full body of work.

VECTOR
In 2011, Vector made tongues wag by nabbing high-profile features from 2Face and 9ice; successfully evolving from being an underground rapper to a near-mainstream act. With scheduled back-to-back releases of free music, we’re hoping Vector will use 2012 to go for the Hip Hop crown.

WANDE COAL
The chubby singer dropped three new singles days before 2011 ended. As he works to present his new album in the New Year he is set to claim pole position as Nigeria’s quintessential pop artiste. The Mo’ Hits artiste will also be definitely involved with D’Banj’s work with Kanye West.

W4
For years W4 was one proverbial hit away from stardom. He finally got his hit ‘Wa gba kontrol’ in 2011. In 2012, there should be no looking back as his hunger for fame and stardom (which have until now eluded him) should push him to come up with bigger hits
