"Yes! At last someone is talking about this", some people are bound to say. I have no doubts as well that this might offend some people - usually the people prospering from this scam and the people who are planning to go into it! I have no apologies for my point of view, if you read with an open conscience and do your due research, you will find out that what I'm communicating here is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.



Two interesting discoveries struck me today! I decided to spend some time listening to a personal development audio this morning ahead of going to work. Sometimes we don't know why we do what we do, but we have confidence that there is always a higher power at work, working in us to will and to do according to divine pleasure. This morning was no exception. For the first time, I decided to pay attention to the biography of Brian Tracy, what I heard created loads of questions in my mind, that today was going to be spent answering... little did I know!



Brian Tracy is a motivational speaker, no doubt, he's authored books, audios, trained and spoken in over 500 companies and speaks really well. What I did not know till today, was that Brian wasn't just a speaker, he had grown from rags to riches, not speaking, but doing all sorts of funny menial jobs and businesses. He is not talking about what he knows nothing about, his work experience and profile, from washing dishes, to digging ditches, stacking lumber working on farms, to working menial jobs in manufacturing, construction, factories even in a ship and finally in SALES from which he moved to Business Management! 20yrs after this experience he has built, managed or turned around 22 businesses. When he speaks, he's not scamming anybody, he knows what he's talking about.



To my utter surprise, I got into my office this morning and met a motivational speaker in my office. He lamented bitterly about how he felt that what many of them in the industry were doing was a scam. He opined that while he had all the certifications in the world, they were not really producing results. He was following his mentors and he has people following him, and he knows that it's all just a game of deceit. After all, even Jesus was recorded to have done and taught! The reality is there are many motivational speakers and motivational speakers wannabe out there, that can't point at anything they have done. Please tell me what are they really teaching people?



To almost crown it all up, I got into my car after 8pm to go home, and had the urge to listen to a DVD a friend shared with me earlier today. To my utter shock and disbelief, the first 5 mins of the audio were used to read the profile of the speaker. The summary of the profile was, he's authored and sold over 50 million copies of his books, but he's built and led over 60 businesses into worldwide growth. Again it struck me, this guy is not just speaking, he's done, and therefore earned the right to speak. Even though I eventually researched the man and could fault his speech, he still had a lot ahead of many motivational speakers or wannabes in this side of the divide. He had good and bad experience. He had a track record of sufficient experience to share with others.



Out of curiosity before I decided to lay down for the night, I decided to do a little research on one of America's premier and most influential motivational speakers and authors- Jim Rohn( 1930–2009 ), an American motivational speaker and writer whose work helped launch or further the career of many others in the personal development industry, including Anthony Robbins, Mark Victor Hansen, Brian Tracy, and Jack Canfield. Jim Rohn was also mentored by Mr. Shoaff who also had direct influence on the early lives of Zig Ziglar and Mary Kay Ash. At the age of 25, Rohn heard a "laws of success" lecture given by Shoaff and went to work for him. I did a little research on Jim Rohn and what I discovered amazed me. Jim Rohn was broke and struggling through life, until he met with John Earl Shoaff, who decided to mentor him and introduce him to a Network Marketing Company - AbundaVita. At the age of 25, Jim Rohn began to apply the laws of success into his business and made his first million dollars 6yrs later at the age of 31! It was only after Jim had become an authority in selling that he ventured 2yrs later into responding to a request to speak, and began to speak. He shared with people what he believed were the philosophies and principles that made him successful. He didn't speak his way to wealth.



I went further to check out great authors and highly priced speakers like Robert Kiyosaki and also discovered that the bedrock of their proclamations is the backing of quality sales experience that the first succeeded in before they began to speak. Kiyosaki learnt selling in Xerox, but opines that the best place to get this skill is by getting on board a Network Marketing company with a good development system. When you see someone who speaks for a living and not much he has done with his life before then, I can guarantee you one thing - All you are likely to get from the program is excitement. It will not translate into anything in your life, because you can't give what you don't have. You can talk about what you have not experienced, and fake the good successful life, but you cannot transfer what you don't own! It's really a case of "teacher, don't teach me nonsense!". Or how do you reckon that a man who teaches financial freedom does not really know what it truly means in an experiential way? How do you learn leadership from someone whose only real contact with leadership is questionable at best, minimal at most. How do you learn effectiveness from someone who is in the real sense far from effective? How do you learn life skills from someone who didn't use any of it? How sustainable is the model of your teacher? Can you be like him? How?



I reiterate, that teaching what you have not learnt is a scam! I encourage you to challenge your speakers to share their experiences with you, what rights have they got to lead you? What do they want you to do to become as wealthy or wealthier than them? They can't ask you to wait all your life for their kind of lucky break, what have they done with their hands? It's important that we begin to ask these questions, or we may indeed be forced to fake it and not eventually make it. Every time I see a young man or woman that says what he wants to become is a public speaker, I feel for him. If he really wants to be a public speaker, he must first learn to be a private worker! The only thing revealed over time in the public, is the result of secret and hidden toils and travails. Our public speakers should stop deceiving our youth and start a company or become a part of one! Let them have track records littered with failure, and possibly garnished with success, let them make moves and make waves. Let them apply their skills, and prove them before serving them to unsuspecting people.



In my next article, I will share with you my further amazing discoveries about some of the most prolific and affluent public speakers in America and their views about an emerging industry. I might even analyze a few speakers to check out their foundation. Till then, don't learn nonsense!

Sympathy love or not?

This is a situation that has always intrigued me especially since I have found myself in that scenario a couple of times. You meet a guy and you are friends for a while, and then you notice that he wants to be more than "just friends". This is the typical nice guy, he won't rush to jump your bones, or to define a romantic relationship. He only showers you with attention and affection. You name and he will do it, or has already done it. What will he not do? When I was in Uni, a guy said he would do anything.

"Anything?" I asked.

"Yes," he said.


I told him to lay down flat before me. Don't judge me, it was youthful exuberance and fresh memories of reading Estella in Dicken's Great Expectations. But guess what? The guy did. Let me not lie, it was very heady and sexy. At the end of the day, I still turned him away cos he was in first year and I was in second. There were a couple more times it happened. A very handsome guy, but not as smart as I wanted. One that was very caring and helpful, but not of the economic level I'd been brought up to expect.

We all have our lists, and I'm a big supporter of knowing what you want and sticking to it. But there are people who will love you so much and show it so well that you become confused. The buzz usually starts immediately they finish writing their final examinations paper,even during the examination , you could visibly see the anticipation on their faces.They are the graduating students , ready to take on their world.Chants of ‘Congratulations ‘ usually rents the air , followed by a full dose of laugther and excitement. This is usually the mood when final year students of universities write their final examination to round off their study.

The traditional design of school goes like this-get good grades, graduate with a degree, and boom!you are now in the career you’ve always wanted. But often times the fresh graduates realize too late that life is not divided in semesters,and the world out there is a university(a learning ground) on its own.
Oyeyinka Giwanson , a graduating student of Lagos State University, department of English studies, describes her university experience: ‘The university experience has taught me patience, tolerance and determination. Sometimes, i get discouraged and i feel like giving up, but the hope for a better future keeps me motivated’. Youth unemployment rate in Nigeria has hit 41.6 per cent, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Lamido Sanusi, has said.

According to him, in gender-specific terms, the rate is 23.3 per cent for males and 17 per cent for females within the age of 15 and 24 years. He stated that such a high unemployment rate, among other social indicators, is one of the major causes of social menace and poverty in the country. The governor said the country's current economic efforts will only be a snapshot if the real economic agents who are the youths are not part of the transformation. These stated all hope is not lost concerning the Nigeria of our dreams, as there is a new breed of young Nigerians using the tool of humour to empower themselves to maximum productivity and achievement.Thanks to the progenitors , the likes of Mohammed Danjuma, Atunyota Akpoborieme(Ali Baba),who have made stand up comedy a craft young Nigerians are making a living from.The visible growth of this industry is a pointer to the fact that the talents of youngsters discovered and honed can become an economic lifeline that will shelter them from poverty.

Well, you may think you cannot do anything, that is a big lie from the devil, there is something so unique about you that the only person who can do it and will do it beautifully well is you. I don’t need to ask you if it’s weird for a woman to carry a baby in her all through her life cause it is obviously weird. It’s also very weird for you to carry that beautiful gift on your inside without giving birth to it inotherwords, expressing it.

Dearest, enough of carrying the due pregnancy around, well, your expected date of delivery is now, your labour should start now and that beautiful baby should be delivered now. No matter how trivial you think it is, it could be that smile, that listening ear, that writing skill, well, whatever it is, your due date is now. Please do not die with that pregnancy, neither should you grow old with it.

But I have decided to keep at it and be willing to confront whatever stops me from being a champion. When Benjamin Disraeli attempted to speak in the Parliament for the first time they booed him into silence , but he said ‘Though I sit down now , the time will come when you will all hear me’.And they did.He became one of Britain’s best orators and Prime ministers. He fought for his dream.

Forget the illusion that your dreams will be achieved on a platter of gold. You, ve got to be willing to throw in more punches till you emerge a victor. Perhaps, others have dragged you down in life. They ve discouraged you from dreaming. May be they resented the fact that you wanted to move up or do something significant with your life. There is no better time than now to recognize and push to the front burner of our minds the enterprising dogged spirit of the Nigerian.Inspite of the daily grisly Nigerian avoidable challenges we experience , we still soar above fierce challenges,choosing to be proactive in living our best lives.Toyosi ogunseye’s story is worth telling as it will inspire and incite generations to come , to dare to pursue their passion and make their mark.A senior correspondent with Punch Newspaper, Toyosi, clinched the MSD Health and Medical Awards at the Cable News Network’s African Journalist Awards in Sandton,South Africa, for her story titled-LUTH’S Ransome Kuti Center:Cauldron where two babies die weekly.Ogunseye has written about a wide range of subjects from crime to science and technology and was shortlisted amongst 27 finalists for this year’s award.She has worked with the Sun and Newsstar Newspapers, and has an M.sc degree in Media and communications from The Pan African University.

THE PURSUIT OF PASSION

Toyosi started pursuing her passion for the written word as a second year Biochemistry student of The University of Lagos.In her words:’ In my second year in the university, I was discussing with a friend of mine. It was my twentieth birthday and I was telling her that I wanted to write and she said she wanted to make jewelry and I told her that we should make it happen, that we don’t have to wait till graduation before we pursue our passions. I had this journal where I used to write so many things, so the following day I just picked a copy of ‘The Sun’ newspaper; I looked at the address behind and went there. I asked to see the news editor whom was Mr. Musa Egbemana at the time, I said ‘Good afternoon sir, my name is Toyosi Ogunseye, a second year bio-chemistry student of the University of Lagos and I want to write for you’. It was production time, he looked at me and had this expression of ‘excuse me, where are you coming from?’ I showed him my journal, one big looking tattered object, and tried to prove to him that I could write, and he said ‘no, no, no, if you want to write for me this is not the kind of thing I want to see, so he said go bring me two stories from anywhere and come with it on Friday by 10.00 am’.She picked it up from there and dared to take a chance on her writing talent inspite of being a Biochemistry student as at that time.Every one walking the face of the earth has a passion, something that animates you and at the same time fascinates you.Its your responsibility to find it , and fan your passion into flame.





GO THE EXTRAMILE

Going the extramile is about adding value beyond what is expected of you,its doing more than you are paid and going beyond the regular in order to birth irregular results.The story that won her the award was created as a result of her willingness to go the extramile.According to her: ‘There was this lady in my office – my Chairman’s secretary – that took her child to LUTH and was not satisfied with the treatment she got. She came back to the office and was discussing with my boss, how she went to LUTH and two children died in her presence and she couldn’t believe she was in Lagos , in a Federal Government Hospital . Then my boss called me up and the woman gave me the summary of all that happened. My boss asked me if there was any story in it and I requested to go and investigate it. The following day I went to LUTH, and I couldn’t go inside the ward because it’s quite small. The doctors, nurses, and mothers will identify a stranger. Each mother stays with the child, and you must know someone or must be visiting. It’s a small room, and a stranger can’t just walk into it else you risk drawing attention your way. So I figured if I must succeed then I will require inside help. My opportunity came when I saw a mother shouting at a doctor, I don’t know what it was about but figured she was displeased with the treatment her child was receiving, so I went to her later and introduced myself and my aim, and needed a disguise for a week. She told me not to worry, that she will pretend that I am her younger sister, and said we should go in. The disguise worked, because everyone thought I was her younger sister that was looking after the baby. I stayed there for forty-eight hours and saw things I did not believe I would see, I saw more than enough to write the story."She recalled.Her ability to stretch herself paid off, as she clinched the award in her category.In life opportunities are created on the platform of difficulties, its your capacity to see the positivity in the problem that will lead to your long awaited break.



PERSISTENCE

She has been applying for this award for seven years, and eventually her persistence and hardwork paid off.I recall with nostalgia my early days of striving to become a sought after columnist, i started out with majority of my articles not getting published, but today the story has changed, as its paying off.Its been said that persistence wears out resistance,persistence made the snail reach the ark.Dare to stick to your convictions and passions, it will soon pay off if you faint not.

Some of the greatest feats ever accomplished by individuals came as a result of the fact that these individuals were smart enough to know that those feats were not impossible.Now that you have been inspired by Toyosi"s story, what can you do to begin to rewrite the story of your life?Its your time to rise out of obscurity to becoming renowned in your area of expertise.I will read your success story.

HOW TO SEE MONEY EVERY WHERE

One of the enigmas in our life is money. The better we know how to relate with it the more pleasant our sojourn on earth will be.
Some months ago, I coached a young man that told me that whenever he does not have money he vomits and get sick. Some other people have told me different things like' I feel depressed and sad'

The Truth...
Not having money in your pocket does not get you depress but how you think about money that get you depress. Things or people can't stress us rather it is how we think about them that cause our stress.

You must learn to change what money means to you. If you do, you will start seeing money everywhere. If you see money as an end in itself, you will put an end to your flow of idea and creativity but if you see it anything you can use to accomplish your heart desire, you will never be stranded.
My story...
I have had the privilege to initiate for 4 to 5 businesses. However none of them I started with my own money. The reason being that, years ago I changed my perception about money.

The perception that can help You...
Money is not the paper you have in your pocket. The paper only represents money. Money is anything that you can use to exchange for whatever you want. Money is a reward you get for solving a problem. Wherever you can see problem or frustration you can make money there if you develop your capacity to solve problem.
To make money, don't pray for more money rather pray for more capacity to solve bigger problem. The opportunity to make money is inherent in our capacity to solve problem. Money is not scarce. It is capacity to solve problems that is.
We live in the world where problem will not cease. The day problem cease that is the day the world stop existing.

Develop fascination for people's frustration. Check out your own frustration too. Solve it for yourself and you will be amazing you have a potential money making machine at your disposal.
I believe you are not poor because you are black but because you are overlooking the opportunity to solve problem for a lot of people.
